A chemist wants to get 200L of 37% alchohol solution by volume by mixing 40% alcohol solution with 30% alcohol solution. How many litres of each should be used? [just write the simulteneous equation to me, if it's not simulteneous, just write out the equation. DO NOT SOLVE IT!!!]
最佳解答:
Let the volume of 40% alcohol used be x L. Let the volume of 30% alcohol used be y L. We have x+y = 200 .............. (1) x(40%) + y(30%) = 200(37%) ........... (2) From your requirement, the solution is not disclosed and is hide below. Just you can highlight (Ctrl-A) to check if you want. From (1), y = 200-x Substitute y=200-x into (2), x(40%) + y(30%) = 200(37%) x(40%) + (200-x)(30%) = 200(37%) x(0.4) + (200-x)(0.3) = 200(0.37) 0.4x + 60 - 0.3x = 74 0.1x = 14 x = 140 Substitute x=140 into (1) 140+y = 200 y = 60 So 140 L of 40% alcohol and 60 L of 30% alcohol is used
