By Principle of Floatation, upthrust = weight of water displaced. but upthrust = weight of wooden block hence, upthrust = 36 gf (gf = "gram-force") i.e. weight of water displaced = 36 gf mass of water displaced = 36 g volume of water displaced = 36 cm^3 (because density of water = 1 g/cm3) Therefore, volume of wooden block immersed in water = 36 cm^3 But volume of block = 36/0.6 cm^3 = 60 cm^3 thus, volume of wooden block above water surface = (60 - 36) cm^3 = 24 cm^3
