A V-shaped pen-holder holds one layer of red pens then one layer of blue pens. The bottom layer has one red pen, and each layer has one more pen than the layer below it. If there are 35 layers, how many red and blue pens are there? there are pens: 1+2+3+4+.....+33+34+35 there are 35 terms (35/2) x [ 2(1)+ ( 35-1)(1)] =(35/2) x (36) =630 hence,there are 630 pens.
